On 1st June 2022, Councillor Glyn Evans was elected as Tredegar Town Mayor, with an official Inauguration due to be held at Bedwellty House on 6th July.

Each year the Mayor of Tredegar Town makes an Appeal on behalf of their chosen charity, which runs throughout their Year In Office, in the hope of raising funds.

The Hospice of The Valleys who provide a service designed to help and assist families, making sure people have the care and support they deserve when they need it the most.

Now I know that this year is different, having suffered through the Covid pandemic for three years, we now find ourselves – through no fault of our own – overwhelmed with a cost-of-living crisis.

Money is tight and we are being faced with making choices we would rather not make. The saying “heat or eating” is one choice we are all having to consider, and I fully understand the position that I am asking you to put yourselves, in considering helping the Hospice of The Valleys. If you can spare just one pound for this charity, I would be extremely grateful.

All the monies collected will go directly to the Hospice so that they can continue the excellent work that they do.”

Hospice of the Valleys – 31 Years of being there and providing care.
Despite the incredibly challenging year we have all faced, it is important to look to the future and more positives times.  2021 was a very special year in the Hospice’s history, celebrating 30 years of providing care and support to patients, and those who matter to them, within our local community.

The Hospice wants to take this opportunity to thank every single supporter of the Hospice of The Valleys during this time as its with your commitment and help that they have been able to support over 10,000 patients and hundreds more family members; making sure people have the care and support they deserve when they need it the most.

Over the last 31 years, the Hospice has grown and developed to meet the needs of the people within the local community. The demand on the service has continued to increase year on year, starting with just 6 patients in 1991 right up to 758 in 2020.

Hospice of the Valleys would not exist today if it wasn’t for the vision, passion, and determination of two very special people over thirty years ago.  Dr Richard Lamerton had the desire to expand what was Hospice of The Marches (which was based in Hereford) down into Abergavenny and Blaenau Gwent; this desire became a reality with the support of Jayne Medlicott MBE, who was the co-founding nurse of the Hospice.  The rest, as they say, is history.

However, like most expanding services, the Hospice needs our support, and this year the Tredegar Town Mayor’s Appeal gives us the opportunity to provide that support for this most deserving local cause. Join us in Giving Just One Pound.
